Working on the next collection

I feel all over the place with the next collection. I am moving along and then I get polish ADD and I change it all up. I have the lab start working on a color and I get it only to change my mind. Fortunately they have been nice enough to deal with my indecision - so far. But I feel like if I don't make a final selection soon, they are going to show me their spirit finger! I need to get it together and quick!

I am getting A LOT of requests for Captivated in other colors, so you may be seeing a purple or blue version soon. I am working on one for another blogger, which if they can get right we might just see another flakie soon! It will probably be not the next collection, but the one after. All my friends and family want something THEY can wear, not all this crazy stuff. They want more colors like Cruisin' Nude. Um Quench, Devious Nature and in my opinion Iconic are all everyone colors if you ask me! Just sayin'.

Anyway, so you may or may not have noticed, but I am trying to put a good mix in each collection. (Is 2 collections enough to notice?) Basically my goal is to put out collections of at least 4 colors at a time.  I may increase it to 5 if sales continue, just like I did with the last collection. So working with 4 colors, I want one "normal" everyone color, one edgy color that I love just for me, one fun out there color, and one wild card that can be any of the three. If I do 5 colors then that is just another wild card color.

But I SOOO want to do an all creme collection. I love cremes. I love the simplicity to them. I love the richness and shine. I love how it can take a far out there color and make it tame just by being a creme. But I know you hard core fanatics need more than that to make you happy, so I will hold off for a little while on an all creme collection.

I also NEED some basic everyone colors. I need a line that has the basics as well as the rest. That will be my best chance and mainstreaming my collection. The lab said I can basically give them any pantone color I want and they can create it in my formula. Nice! But creative? Not so much! I have talked to a few salons and they want the regular colors, the reds and pinks and corals and some other fun colors that are not too out there. The problem is that there can easily be dupes for these colors. Um hello, that's why they are basics! So basics are something that can help me mainstream, but can hold me back at the same time. But I admit - I WANT the basics too!

So what is my point you ask? Well, my point is, I am going to add one or two basics into the next few collections. These colors will I am sure have close dupes. I am not a miracle worker - in a land of hundreds of blues for example, I doubt that there is a version no one but me thought of! But I at least try. So I have been working on a few colors for several months now, and now I am down to the wire and MUST make a selection. I am going to put these colors out there and pray that another company doesn't beat me to the punch. If you had to choose which of these would you want released first? I am most likely going to release all of these, just not in one collection so that we can still have the fun stuff too.

Are you ready to help with some more Cult Nails decisions? OK so here we go:

OK, so this one is cheating. This one will definitely be part of a line. I think not the next one, but the one after it. I posted this one several months ago on Twitter. I LOVE this color! This was suppose to be Always Winning. Juan convinced me otherwise because there are too many similar colors to it. A decision I have regretted ever since. Don't get me wrong, I like Always Winning, but I LOVE this one! You know me I love me some shimmer polish and this green - I die! I already ordered this one, but they probably won't have it ready in time for the next collection. Boo! I just couldn't resist showing you guys! LOL! My kids hate this color. Oh well, you can't please everyone!

OK so now time for the decision

This one I am LOVING! OK I will probably say that about all of them! That's why I am having such a hard time deciding! LOL! I wanted to do my take on black. I thought glitter, I thought shimmer, but those have all been done. So how about a dark slate ALMOST black color. This is a rich shiny creme. It is almost black but not really. This one is number one on my list - I think...

I have wanted a yellow from the start! We started with banana yellow, but I really wanted a mustard yellow. I got it down to 2 sometimes 3 coats. I can't seem to do much better than that. All this work on a yellow that I thought would be in the last collection, has me yellowed out. None of my girls want me to do the yellow either. It truly is the color of a buttercup. So pretty and again shiny. But the earliest I would be able to get this one is mid Fall. A yellow for Fall? Will we be yellowed out by then? Maybe I should keep working on this one for the Spring? But seriously a yellow the color of a butter cup? Can you stand it?

 And lastly...

If you have been following me from the beginning, you would know that I have a few absolute favorite brands. They inspire me every day. In this blog I actually did a post where I made a franken and said if ABC color and XYZ color had a baby it would be THIS color. (Still with me?) Oh how I loved that franken! I wanted it for the inaugural collection, but I could only do four colors and this one lost. But I still LOVE this franken.  Just looking at this I think I am going to change my manicure now. So here I am still wanting to add the baby of two of my favorite colors to my line. It's kind of dusty, teal, grey, blue. And what's best is I think this one is neutral enough to wear to the office. Oh how I want this color! Oh wait I have this color - what I mean is oh how I want this color to be a cult color.

So what do you girls(and a few guys) think? If I can only choose one for an upcoming collection, which one would you choose and which one would you hold for the future?

Oh and since I am just putting it all out there, Juan & I discussed the possibility of having a Buy 3 Get 1 free be an all the time thing. Like forever. $10 a bottle or buy 3 or more bottles and get 1 free. What do you think? Yay or nay on this idea? (I think I know the answer to this one already - but don't get your hopes up. I want to make a living at this, so this would be a huge consideration for us!)

  2. I LOVE that yellow, and I would definitely buy the green shimmer as well! And if you're able to do a buy 3 get 1 free sale all the time, of course that would be fantastic. :)

  3. THE YELLOW!!! OMG, that has my heart! As for basics...how about a French manicure duo? A nice, streak-free sheer pink/nude and a streak-free, two-coater jelly white would be awesome. I love Essie Marshmallow but the formula frustrates me!

  4. YELLOW! <3 I love that yellow. I'm not usually a yellow fan unless it is neon but yours looks awesome!!

  5. That first one is awesome. The 2nd and last one are closer compared to the other shades. Are you having them in the same or different release?

  6. @hairbrush - It is really nice. It looks black, but it doesn't all at the same time!

@Zara - the green is definitely in. Oh that darn yellow! Even in the Fall? I love the buttercup color!

@The Asian Girl - Yellow seems to be the one. What is funny is my neighbor said definitely NOT the yellow until I put it on her, then she said definitely the yellow! I do want more natural colors too, never thought of french options!

@Tierney - Looks like yellow is in sooner than later!

@Kittypolishnbags - Yes since these are all basics, there will definitely be close ones out there. Heck maybe close enough to be barely be different, that is why I am thinking of one to each collection, rather than all at once? Let's see what happens.

  7. I absolutely love love love the dark slate color. I love the "almost black" look. It's very chic. I'd say the yellow would be my second choice.

I think your polishes are definitely worth the $10 price tag. I don't want you to sell yourself short at all. It's difficult because I'm sure knowing there was buy 3 get 1 free brought in a lot of orders for you. I know it was a great incentive for me to place an order. I just wonder as time progresses and your brand becomes more widely known if you'd be doing yourself a disservice by having the forever special? Does that make sense? I get why it's a big consideration for you. :)

  8. I'm really not a fan of the yellow but every other color is totally awesome! I'm REALLY feeling the olive and the black/blue color..i would definitely buy both of them!

  9. I love the almost black, and really like the last dusty teal color. And I'm all for an all creme collection! Even though the crazy stuff is neat, I always love cremes!

  12. Oh please please please dont make us wait for that green shimmer!!!! That would be my first choice, second choice is the "almost-black" me loves!!! I've yet to wear a yellow polish... And I'm not itching to pick it up (I'm too much of a chicken...)

  13. The teal blue is my fave of the bunch. I'm not a fan of yellow oranges, which is what that one color looks like to me. I'd like to see a bright yellow that isn't neon yellow.

  14. That "almost black" is AMAZING. I'm so ready for that one. And I love the idea of an all the time buy 3 get one free deal. That's awesome, and I think it encourages people to buy, although you don't need a whole lot of encouragement with awesome polishes like yours. ;)

  15. Hey Maria! The almost-black really reminds me of OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees.... Gotta tell you that first one is *dynamite* and I'm drooling over the dusty teal as well! Love your creativity!

  16. OMG THE YELLOW! *droools all over self*

Hmm, second would be. Um. Wow. I like all of them very much. I think that tealy dusty blue would be a huge hit.

I'm thinking that 1 'normal' color, 1 edgy, 1 out there, 1 basic that might be quite duped (but with your formula? might be the best yet), and then 1 'fan voted' type color that could be anything. Also, I'd totally buy an all creme collection from you!

I love the B3G1 special, but I really think it should be for pre-orders etc, and not an all the time thing. That gets the sale price up for those who order right away (generally the biggest devotees), and gets the swatches out there for the general public. And then, the rest of us (who couldn't swing a pre-order or whatnot bwahaa) are probably perfectly willing to spend $10 a bottle regardless.

Maybe down the road as you get organized and have many more customers, it would be good to do some kind of loyalty program where if you buy X amount of bottles, you earn points towards a free one?

  17. the Slate and Teal have my vote! Especially the gorgeous dusty teal!

  18. I love the green shimmer, it kind of reminds me of China Glaze Zombie Zest, but definitely not the same

  19. I want that green shimmer soooooooo badly!! It's gorgeous! It's my kind of weird ugly pretty color. I also love the yellow!

  20. The last one, definitely for sure.

I'd love a purple version of Let Me Fly, but I've told you that before. ;D

  21. almost black for the fall. When every ones outfits go darker people tend to want to wear darker colors too. Sorry for the annon comment but it wouldn't let me edit my sign on

  22. Ohh, I like all of them but the almost black and the greenish-gold one is my favourites. So nice colors and the yellow one is summer!!

  23. You know I adore almost any color that is black-but-not-quite. So the polish I am going to comment on is the first one... that is SO Jabba-the-HAUTE! I love it! :)

  24. Hi!
I think the black is too die for!
    I don`t like the yellow
I don`t think it`s a color that flatters every one
I really love your polishes and I hope you can also ship to Holland when your new collection is out
Because I`m want the teal one for sure
    Love Sonja

  25. They are all gorgeous! I really can not decide but I think in order I like yellow, the last one, the slate (since the green is a shoe in otherwise it would have been first).

As for the B3G1F as someone on a VERY tight budget who is still sad that I missed the last sale (hopefully you don't sell out before I get the funds to order) I would say heck yeah that would be awesome. From the business standpoint though I would say that for now presale and then maybe a random sale now and then would probably be your best option. Perhaps later when the company and customer base grows a loyalty program like mentioned earlier or a permanent sale would work.

  26. OH MYLANTA, That YELLOW is absolutely amazing!! When I save up enough money to order, I am ordering Captivated and THAT would also be on my list!! It's stunning!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would love to be able to buy more, so evidently I think buy three get 1 free all the time is a great idea

    ReplyDelete
  28. I need that yellow as soon as possible.

  29. I usually try to respond individually, but I realize that my reply button is gone. Oops! So it seems an all cream collection wouldn't be a bad idea. I thought I was the only cream fanatic. But in a world of glitter, flakes, and crackle, sometimes it just feels nice to be simple and creamy. LOL! I am wearing the dusty teal, grey one now. I am getting so many compliments on it to. Amazing! Let's see what the next collection will bring! I may just mix it up! I am actually ordering 8 colors I think, there are 4 that are finalized (the ones seen here) and 4 that we are still working on which is supposed to be the next collection. I am a bit nervous I am not going to get the next collection out on time at this point! Starting to go into Panic mode a little over the next collection. eek!
