Live & Learn

My mind is still wrapped up in all that is Halloween. Even though by the time you read this, the night will be over. But I have to say it was a fun night. My kids all dressed up and then took off with their friends, so that was a bit bittersweet. They officially don't need us anymore. :( I was however, able to sit back and give out candy and enjoy the neighborhood madness. We had hundreds of Trick or Treaters tonight. We gave out about $50 worth of candy and then had to get the neighbors candy too! Thank goodness she still had some and was willing to share with us!

One of my favorite costumes from the night
Anyway, I also learned a very valuable lesson, which has nothing to do with Halloween. We re-ordered some colors that were running low and they came with Unicorn Puke. Our first priority was getting out everyone's Unicorn Puke out. Next up came the inventory of the rest of the polishes and rolling of polish burritos. Well we finally got to Devious Nature. I pulled a bottle out and realized the color is not right. Now if I showed you one today and put the other one on and showed the other one to you tomorrow, you would think - yup this is the same color. But when they are side by side they are clearly two very different shades of pink. Devious Nature is a hot pink that has purple undertones to it that make it less HOT pink. The shade they sent me is a perfect hot bubble gum pink. NO purple undertones at all! Close enough that I don't need it in my line, but far enough that it just won't do. The problem is that I didn't get a pre-ship bottle on these. When I do a color, once they have the color approved they send me one more bottle as a pre-ship before they fill the rest of my bottles. This is kind of like the last chance to make corrections. Since these were re-orders, I didn't think anything of the fact that they didn't send me the pre-ships. I just assumed they don't do that for re-orders. They didn't offer and I didn't ask. Now I have all these bottles of the wrong color. I don't know what is going to happen, we are working with the lab now. But I learned a valuable lesson. Always ask for a pre-ship - no matter what! Now I am hoping there is a solution here and that I didn't just lose thousands of dollars! Yikes! I'll keep you guys posted!

Can you see the difference?

  1. I'd say, looking at this on my phone, the one on the left has a blue tone to it. Both Still cute though

  2. There is a difference. I see your dilemma. I hope everything irons itself out. Devious Nature is on the left, right? The impersonator on the right just wishes it was Devious Nature. Too bad it's not October or you could change their name and have a "special color" for breast cancer awareness month. You'll figure it out, you always do. You're Maria and you're brilliant after all!

  3. You could make it an LE color... Devious Nature 2.0 - never to return again but for today -what upppp lol or offer a coupon with it and say something like purchase Devious Nature 2.0 and get free shipping on your next order.

  4. Are you kidding? If they wont fix it sell it as a special edition colour! You have a limited edition shade, not what you wanted, but certainly pretty enough to sell!

I am sure it will work out! Not necessarily the way planned, but there is no chance on earth you have a bottle of cult nails we WONT want to buy!!

  5. Yea, you can tell a difference, but I agree...sell it as an LE. I like the idea of the 2.0 name.

  7. I agree with the LE idea - instead of Devious Nature, maybe call it Deviated Nature. ;)

  8. The one to the left is more blue.
They both look good but I think the right one is just hot pink not so special.

  9. If the lab won't take it back & you are "stuck" with them, I am chiming in with all the above suggestions to make lemonade from lemons & sell it as a 1-time-only limited edition color (you could call it Pink Lemonade!). The other name I thought of was Whoops! Devious Nature 2.0 & Deviated Nature aren't bad either. Maybe you could also number the bottles like you did for Unicorn Puke, just for a fun touch. Good luck with whatever happens, I hope it works out okay for you!

  10. I don't know all the ins and outs of the business, but I feel like the lab should correct their mistake. However, if you end up having to keep this shipment, I think I stick with everyones' suggestion of selling it as a LE color. Make lemonade when life gives you lemons....pink lemonade is too good of a name to pass up...I know I'd buy it! I hope everything works out!
